Presenters

Dr. Sameer Hinduja

Dr. Sameer Hinduja is a Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University and Co-Director of the Cyberbullying Research Center. Dr. Hinduja also trains students, educators, parents, mental health professionals, and other youth workers how to promote the positive use of technology. His work has been featured in venues from the BBC to The New York Times. He presented on cyberbullying at a Congressional Briefing on Capitol Hill, testified in front of the Attorney General and the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security, and served as a Fulbright Specialist Scholar at Dublin City University. Dr. Hinduja is also the Co-Founder and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Bullying Prevention.

Dr. Ferial PearsonDr. Ferial Pearson was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya and is the first in her immediate family to go to college. She taught English and Reading for ten years at Omaha South High School during which she received national awards for her work with students and in the community and earned her master’s degree. In 2009, Ferial left Omaha South to work for the Avenue Scholars Foundation during which time she created the Secret Kindness Agents project, which became the subject of a book, a TEDx Talk, and was the focus of her dissertation. She currently is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in the Teacher Education Department.
