(Position Duties)

Dr. Dan Ernst officially assumed the position of NCSA Associate Executive Director on July 1, 2007.  Prior to accepting the offer extended by new Executive Director Dr. Michael Dulaney, Ernst served the past thirteen years as the Superintendent of Schools in School District 145, Waverly Nebraska and began his superintendent career with a five-year stint with the Gibbon Public Schools.  Administrative experience also includes one year as an assistant principal and six years as principal at Grand Island Northwest, Grand Island Nebraska.  Including teaching assignments in Cambridge and Gering Ernst has thirty-four years of experience in Nebraska schools.

A lifelong Nebraskan and native of Aurora, Dan received is undergraduate degree from Wayne State College, a Master's of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and an Educational Specialist Degree in 1988 and Doctor of Education Degree in 1997 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

A longtime NCSA member, Ernst has served on the Council's Executive Board from 2002-2005 and served as the Chair of the organization in 2004-05.  He has served on the Educator's Health Alliance Board of Directors and the NCSA Legislative Committee.  His leadership and experience with NCSA as well as other successful experiences with school organizations has prepared him well for his new role with NCSA.

Dan has received many honors and was named Nebraska Superintendent of the Year in 2004 and received distinguished service awards from the Nebraska School Activities Association and the Nebraska State Athletic Director's Association in 2007.  In addition, at the 2007 Nebraska State Track meet he was honored for twenty-five years of service.

Ernst and his wife Dixie have three grown children that all reside in the Lincoln area.  Dan and Dixie enjoy watching Nebraska sports, bicycling, golf, beautifying the back yard and amateur photography.
