Learning Together provides one-on-one tutoring programs that offer targeted interventions for struggling students in grades two through middle school.  Lessons are designed around structured and purposeful interactions between cross-age tutors and tutees, taking advantage of the powerful influence that socialization experiences with peers can have on academic achievement, motivation and self-esteem.

In an RTI or Tier 2 program, Reading Together™ and Math Together™ tutees gain an average of 1.5 grade levels growth over 30 lessons.  Below-proficient students selected as tutors often beneft even more than tutees, doubling the impact of the intervention.  In Grand Island, Nebraska, for example, fourth-grade Reading Together tutors averaged 812 on the SRI, compared with a District average of 692; fifth-grade tutors averaged 917, verses the District average of 819.

Learning Together's scientifically based programs are unique because of the training and scripting built into each lesson, allowing tutors as young as fourth grade to get measurable academic results as they build caring bonds with younger children.  Other positive outcomes include enhanced peer relations, improved classroom behavior and attendance, and gains in independence, cooperation and organizational skills.

The nurturing environment, one-on-one attention and relaxed conversational format of the lessons meet the needs of a large number of students, including special education students and English Language Learners, who have difficulty participating in the regular classroom.  On-site professional development for program coordinators builds school capacity by teaching higher-level reading comprehension and math problem-solving strategies that can be integrated into everyday instruction.

Learning Together currently serves more than 300 urban, suburban and rural districts nationwide, including Cherry Creek, CO; Cleveland, OH; Irving, TX; Clark County, NV; and Montgomery County, Md.  For more information, review Dr. Steve Joel's presentation to the Nebraska Council of School Administrators in Breckenridge, or contact Julie Smith at julie@learningtogether.com, 720-219-8284 (cell), or toll free 1.866.921.0000.
